Regional Director Transportation Operations

The Director will provide effective general direction and oversight of multiple transportation operations; The goal is to direct and coordinate the management of specific customer site locations to include compliance with corporate policies and federal, state and local regulations; development and retention of qualified personnel; and establishment of accurate financial budgeting/P&L, cost control and reporting.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily activity at each location.
    • Support driver shortages.
    • Support fluctuation in business volumes.
    • Help create plans for improvements.
    • Review damage or other cost impacts and work with site General Managers to create SOPs and action plans.
  • Review all accidents, injuries, and CSA violations and work with site General Managers to create action plans.
  • Develop and implement transportation plans and strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze KPI's to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Negotiate contracts with transportation vendors and service providers.
  • Manage Labor Relations for locations with union employees.
  • Audit: Safety records and ELD data for compliance and improvement opportunities.
  • Financial accountability and strategic oversight for delivering optimal performance against established critical metric standards and effective cost management.
  • Meet or exceed financial budget expectations for all locations.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor direct reports to develop them for future growth, whilst also encouraging a culture where inclusion and diversity drive innovation.
  • Drive peak season strategies and execution to support the exciting needs of the business, including contingency plans, as production plans fluctuate.
  • Empower decision making and risk taking by setting clear expectations for your team, your peers, and your partners.
  • Quarterly audit at each location.
  • Meet with customers on a regular basis and present Strategic Business Reviews.
  • Manage outside carrier relationships, utilization of carriers and the financial impact of carrier utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with customer contracts and support contract changes and development.
  • Review weekly customer invoices and payroll for accuracy and to ensure we meet expectations.
  • Regular equipment audits.
  • Weekly leadership meetings with the site General Managers.
  • Weekly notes and reports to Sr. VP Logistics.
  • Quarterly check-ins and yearly performance reviews with General Managers.
  • Lead and facilitate all startups in the region or additional business from current customers.
  • Work with HR on all terminations or corrective actions for all staff.
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy on all weekly reports and tasks.
  • Meet and work with other RDOs regularly to install improvement plans or create company-wide SOPs and standardization.
  • Partner with SVP and GMs to create Budgets on an annual basis
  • Support new business generation process of pricing, design, and proposals.
  • Lead and / or support special projects as needed to advance the DCC business.

Pay Range: 120000.00-150000.00 per_year, General Benefits: Benefits

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience in transportation operations with specific experience in dedicated contract management.
  • 5+ years leadership experience with shown management and development skills
  • Strong understanding of transportation operations and the overall supply chain
  • Prior experience creating, maintaining, and completing a fiscal budget and strong cost leadership skills
  • Highly analytical approach to problem solving, using their outstanding Microsoft Suite proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and a high interest in manipulating and making inferences from data
  • Experience applying metrics and data to drive decision making, with a process improvement & efficiency focus
  • A self-director who can work independently, lead their own timelines, and set priorities
  • Ability to influence others without authority and be responsible for the business with vision and strategy
  • Must possess strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with various stakeholders
  • Experience with negotiating collective bargaining agreements preferred.
  • In this role you will be encouraged to travel on a regular basis, ensuring you visit each DCs in your region at least quarterly.
